Reagan's Birthday Dress

I'm just going to pretend that this post actually was on time - like on time back in January after Reagan's birthday! Yup! I have mommy brain. It happens! I honestly thought, though, that I had already blogged about this dress but I realized recently that I forgot too! Oops. All of these pictures are from her birthday! She LOVES to open wrapped presents (who doesn't?).

So, here is the beautiful dress that I made for Reagan for her 2nd birthday!
I used a gorgeous apparel fabric from Joanns for the skirt portion. It's almost a crepe / chiffon type fabric with textured rosettes all over it. I was drooling over the fabric from the minute I saw it. I almost (and now, wish I had) bought some for me, too. But the price was a bit steep for the amount that I would've needed for a garment for me. I picked up the gray striped knit from Joanns too. I only used a 1/3 of a yard for bodice.
Okay, so I used a smashup of three different patterns:
the Geranium Dress by Made By Rae - for the bodice
the Gretchen Cardigan by Violette Field Threads - for the sleeves
the Sally Dress by Very Shannon - for the skirt
I made all of these in a 2T and it still fits her now - she wore it to church two Sundays ago (which is when I realized that I never blogged about it).

While I adore this dress - and Reagan looks stunning in it - it's not really her style.
It's more my style. But hey, I gotta dress her in my style while I can, right?
Take care yall!

Weekender Bag No.2

Good morning yall! Hope everyone had a restful weekend - we surely did.

A little business before I get started on a recent project. The winner of last week's giveaway for Shannon at Luv in the Mommyhood's latest pattern, The Sally Dress, is:

Congratulations, Caroline! Look for an email today from me - I'll get you and Shannon in touch for your Sally Dress pattern!

This past weekend was not only Labor Day but also my sweet momma's birthday! She's been strongly hinting that she wanted an Amy Butler Weekender Bag. So that's what I made her!
I used mostly Bonnie and Camille fabrics for it - with a few random red, white/low volume, and teal/aqua fabrics thrown in. I love how it pulled together! Red and aqua are two of my mom's favorite colors - and it will match her red luggage set for our trip to the Quilt Festival in Houston at the end of October/November!
I used this pretty red and white floral print for the inside lining. For the false bottom, I used the bunting fabric from A Simple Life line. I like that it makes the bottom of the bag a little easier to find inside.
I paper pieced the outside pockets using my friend, Jennifer at Ellison Lane Quilts, paper piecing pattern. It's a freebie and super simple! I love how it complements the vintage vibe of this bag.
I did make a few small changes to the pattern. I used the quilt as you go method for the panels - but I quilted it using batting and interfacing. For the outside pockets, I quilted the panels and lining together, and used quilting binding instead of piping for the ends of the pockets. I love that it adds a fresh look to the bag.
I also shortened the handles and didn't extend them to the bottom of the bag. Mom and I are both kind of short, so I measured the length of the handles so that it fits comfortable over Mom's shoulders but that it doesn't hit the floor if she carries it by hand.
I think that she likes it! :)

Birthday Dress

Hey yall! With my new job, I'm finding that I have less time to sew (obviously) but I'm still getting things done, thanks to a sweet husband and some weekend time. I try to find some time a couple nights a week to sew as well as a little bit on the weekend. The nice thing is that I'm prioritizing my sewing more, which is probably a good thing.

Last Friday night, I sewed up this cute cute dress for Reagan to wear for her birthday photos. I LOVE how it turned out!!
Birthday Dress
I used an Oliver + S pattern that I bought on sale at my local quilt shop for $5 a few months ago! It's the Family Reunion Dress, which I think it's just plain ol' sweet.
Family Reunion Dress
Oliver + S describes the dress as this:
What are you wearing to the reunion? This charming, classic dress pattern features pintucked pleats at the front and back, a choice of button tab or ruffle embellishment at the front, and a sweet neckline. Gently gathered short sleeves, our signature hem facing with topstitched detail, and buttons up the back complete the look. The dress can also be shortened into a blouse.

I made a 12 to 18 month size, and it was definitely too big for Reagan. In her birthday photos, we had the back of her dress pinned together with a a hair bow (because I didn't have her try it on before we went). As with all Oliver + S patterns, it was super easy to put together. The directions were really easy to follow and clear, rand it didn't take me too long. I had everything cut out on Thursday night, and literally sewed this up in about two hours. I did change the back of the dress. The pattern called for the dress to have buttons down the back, and I decided to put in a zipper instead. With Reagan, zippers are super easy and getting her to hold still to button her up is next to impossible.

I LOVE how this dress turned out. It's amazingly beautiful, and I'm really proud of it. I didn't get the pintucks completely even, but you can't really tell. I think that the fabric is adorable. It's from the Kate Spain line, "Central Park" by Moda. I picked it up last week at Creative Sewing Machine Center
Birthday Dress
What do yall think? Not too shabby!! I love that she'll be able to wear the dress this spring and summer, and I'm probably going to make a few more. It's so much fun to make clothes for a little girl.

Of course, it photographed well for her birthday photos. Overall, I'd call it a success. When I finished it and showed it to my husband, I told him that I was starting to feel like a real seamstress. I made a dress in an evening, and it looked like it came from a baby boutique. :)

Happy Birthday Baby

One year ago today, my life changed forever. My little girl, Reagan Sophia Booth, joined the world and our family! To say that she is the biggest blessing of my life would be a huge understatement.

I thought it'd be fun for yall to look back over the last year with me!

Reagan weighed 2 pounds 4 ounces at birth! Today, she is almost twenty pounds!

She loves to crawl, pull up, play with anything that moves or  makes music, is fascinated by new things, loves our dog, Shelby, and loves to crawl into Mommy and Daddy's laps. She is independent, curious, and stubborn. Reagan loves to eat applesauce, bananas, grilled chicken, macaroni and cheese, and yogurt. She has gorgeous light brown/blondeish hair that has the slightest hint of a curl at at the bottom of it. She has her grandpa's blue eyes, her daddy's face, and sometimes my smile.

Clearly, she is our pride and joy!! Happy Birthday baby girl!!!
